Guwahati clinch Nuruddin trophy

GUWAHATI, April 5 � Former champions Guwahati regained the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy emerging champions in the Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament.

On the final day of the four-day encounter, at the Assam Cricket Association�s Barsapara stadium here today, Guwahati won by virtue of their 153-run first innings lead against the defending champions Nagaon as the match ended in a draw.

Chasing a big victory target of 431 in the second innings, Nagaon made a brilliant fightback through Amit Sinha (151 off 208 balls) and Dhiraj Goswami (100 off 90 balls). But their efforts went in vain as they were finally restricted to 388 for the loss of nine wickets. In the closing function ACA secretary Bikash Baruah gave away the prizes.
