GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - Farhan Tanvir and Afshin Afsha Jaman are leading in the U-7 category of the Guwahati Chess Championship (junior, women and veteran) organised by Guwahati Chess Association at the South Point School from October 13 to 16.

In the second round, Farhan beat Sibangshu Deka while Afshin Afsha Jaman got the better of top seed Mrinmoy Rajkhowa. Ronit Barman and Mrinmoy Rajkhowa share the second spot with 1 points each. In U-9, Jyotsnabh Talukdar, Baibhabi Baruah, Mayank Chakraborty and Barnav Deka are in the lead with 2 points each. Attri Nibir is in second position with 1 point. In U-11, Anubrat Barthakur and Pran Gobinda Parashar Kashyap are joint leaders with 2 points from 2 rounds. Nihad Islam Hazarika, Sajal Saroj Lahkar, Jayaditya Das and Ayan Baruah occupy the second spot with 1.5 points each. In U-13 (girls), Medha Baruah is leading the field with 2 points after the second round while Anoushka Priyam is in second position with 1 point. In U-13 (boys), Debaprita Roy is leading the field with 3 points after completion of third round. Risav Sarkar is in second position with 2.5 points. In U-15 (boys), Arunabh Gohain, Aaorohan Bharadwaj and Mridumoloy Das are leading the field with 2 points each. In U-17, Uddipta Kakati is leading with 2 points. In U-17 (girls) Simran Ahmed is leading with one point. Hiranya Das is leading in the veteran category with 2 points after the second round, stated a press release.
