Guwahati champs in JK Barua cricket

MANGALDAI, Feb 7 � By virtue of their first innings lead of 195 runs over Hailakandi, Guwahati emerged champions in the JK Barua (U -19) inter-district cricket tournament here today. On the second day of the two-day final match at the Mangaldai stadium, the match was declared drawn in the 19th over of the Guwahati second innings with consent from captains of both the teams. Earlier, chasing 329 runs on the board, Hailakandi began their first innings in the morning today but they were bundled out for 134 runs on the board conceding a huge 195 runs first innings lead to Guwahati.

Medium pacer Kon Urang was the chief wrecker in the Hailakandi innings with a figure of 6 for 47 while spinner N Kiran Kumar gave him good support with a spell of 4 for 16. Nahush Yadav top scored with 39 for Hailakandi. Although Hailakandi failed to avoid the follow on, Guwahati did not force them to follow on and scored 74 for one in their second innings when umpires decided to draw stumps. Kon Urang from Guwahati was adjudged the Man of the Match while Ambar Bhattacharyee also from the champion team was declared best batsman of the match.

It may be mentioned that the tournament which was held in Mangaldai from January 10, in addition to Hailakandi, has allegedly failed to draw the attention of the office bearers of ACA as no one from ACA reportedly visited the tournament venue here.
