GUWAHATI, June 19 - Governor PB Acharya has written to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal voicing his concern over the performance of government-run schools, calling for an urgent overhaul of the government-run education system.
The Governor who had felicitated HSLC and HSSLC rank holder students at the Raj Bhawan, said that almost all the rank holders were from private schools, and that no government school had achieved excellence. �The achievers are only from a few districts, and there are hardly any tribal student achievers. These issues should be a major cause of concern and need to be addressed promptly,� he said.
Acharya said a white paper should be brought out concerning last three years� budgetary allotment to the educational sector and comparing the results of the government schools with those of private schools. He added that there was an urgent need to overhaul the system and give voluntary support.
