Guv condoles Mahasweta Devi�s death

GUWAHATI, July 29 - Governor PB Acharya has condoled the death of eminent litterateur and social activist Mahasweta Devi, who died yesterday at the age of 91.

In his condolence message, Acharya termed Mahasweta Devi as a writer whose writings focussed primarily on the marginalized communities of the society and served as the voice of the voiceless and oppressed. She enriched the world of literature through her writings and her death �is an irreparable loss to the country.�

Acharya added, �A writer par excellence, Mahasweta Devi was awarded with Ramon Magsaysay award, Padma Vibhushan, Sahitya Akademi and Jnanpith awards, and with her death the country has lost a great writer.� He said that she has left behind a rich legacy of her publications which would continue to be a source of information and inspiration to the world of literature and the people all around will continue to derive encouragement from her works.
