GUWAHATI, May 17 - Governor PB Acharya has expressed concern over the issue of internal security in Gauhati University campus in view of some of the recent incidents that have taken place.
Acharya, who is also the Chancellor of Gauhati University, has stressed that security arrangement in the university campus needs to be strengthened and the incidents be thoroughly investigated, said a statement issued by SK Nath, Registrar of the university.
The Governor has said that security arrangements should be intensified, along with regular night vigil, so that incidents do not take place in near future and the residents of the campus can feel safe.
Recently some incidents like felling of valuable sandalwood trees in the Vice-Chancellor�s residence and in the HKB Regional Resource Centre and theft of bikes took place in the campus. The statement said that the Gauhati University administration has seriously viewed this matter and some urgent steps have been taken, including additional deployment of security guards and intensified regular patrolling at night.
A meeting was held on May 13 to discuss the issues involved and decide the next course of action.
The statement said that Commissioner of Police of Guwahati Mukesh Agarwal has also assured the university administration of full cooperation from their end in this regard.
A special meeting for the purpose will be held with the police administration tomorrow which will be attended by the members of the recently formed Security Review Committee to work out a detailed plan of action.
