JORHAT, Oct 7 - The next phase of four-day Gunotsav programme for elementary and high schools will be organised in Jorhat district from tomorrow.

A district administration source said that elaborate preparations have been made by the Education Department to organise the programme to evaluate the functioning of schools in the district.

Gunotsav is a quality enhancement initiative of the Government for bringing about improvement in the learning level of students that was introduced last year when the Education Department was under the tutelage of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The source said that Gunotsav will be organised in 1,394 schools across the district, which will include Government provincialised schools and those run by the tea gardens.

Altogether, 77,977 students (Class-II to IX) of those schools will be covered by the programme. The source stated that to conduct the evaluation, about 500 external evaluators have been engaged, which includes MP, MLAs, Government officials and college teachers.

For smooth conduct of the initiative, 125 coordinators and 1,394 nodal teachers have been put in charge, the source further stated, adding that necessary instructions to be followed during the programme have been given to the schools.
