By CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR, Oct 15 - A 13-member delegation from Gujarat led by Minister of State for Sports Ishwarsinh Thakorbhai Patel on Monday called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Bhavan here.

The delegation comprising of MPs, MLAs and senior bureaucrats, on behalf of Govt of Gujarat, invited the Governor to participate in the unveiling of 182-metre-tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.

The Statue of Unity, located near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31 next.

Interacting with the delegation, Mishra recalled the contributions of Patel in saving Kashmir from being overrun by the Pakistan Regulars and Non-Regulars. Because of the political acumen and practical wisdom of Sardar Patel, even the most bellicose Princely States also joined the Indian Union.

The tallest statue of world, now going to be unveiled in Gujarat, is a befitting tribute to this illustrious freedom fighter and the unifier of independent India, the Governor said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said since last few years the North East is getting attention from Centre like never before under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the region is making rapid progress in air, rail, road and digital connectivity. He also said Arunachal has benefited greatly in the last four years under PM Modi.

Khandu said this when the delegation from Gujarat called on him.
