DIBRUGARH, Jan 10 � A guest house was opened on Wednesday at the New Terminal Building of the Dibrugarh Airport at Mohanbari, the easternmost civilian airport of the country. At present, three fully-furnished suite quality rooms have been provided at the guest house. There is a provision for three more such rooms.
Passengers who need to arrive at the airport a day in advance to board their flights can now stay at the guest house at reasonable rates in comparison to star category hotels.
It is also learnt that the Transport Department of the Government of Assam has released a sum of Rs 3.30 crore to the district administration to make payments to land owners whose land will be acquired for the proposed extension of the runway at the airport. Sections of people have urged the district administration here to arrange for speedy resolution of the issue to facilitate the early start of the delayed work on the extension of the runway.
On Air India flights from Dibrugarh, conscious circles here have expressed serious dissatisfaction and resentment. The diversion of the route of the Dibrugarh-Kolkata Air India flight through Dimapur has caused the sharing of seats and as few passengers fly in the Dibrugarh-Dimapur sector, it seems that the passengers in the Dibrugarh-Kolkata sector are being made to bear the operational cost of the flight in the Dibrugarh-Dimapur sector. Satyabrata Sarma, general secretary of the Dibrugarh Bar Association, said: �If at all the Dibrugarh-Kolkata Air India flight is to be routed through somewhere, then it should be via Guwahati and, preferably in the morning hours, as a sizeable number of air passengers travel in the Guwahati-Dibrugarh sector everyday.�
Also, as Air India has not yet provided the much-needed aerobridge service to its passengers, it appears that it has been violating the rights of the passengers by making them walk. If any old or ill passenger suffers due to this, Air India alone will have to take the responsibility.
