GU zoology deptt golden jubilee workshop

GUWAHATI, Oct 22 � To mark the completion of 50 years of the Zoology department of Gauhati University, the department is organising a national brainstorming workshop billed Prospects, potentials and diversification opportunities of culture system in beel fisheries sector of North East India.

The main objective of this inaugural event of the golden jubilee celebration of the department is to provide a common platform to the scientists, planners, experts, stakeholders, government and non-government agencies, funding agencies, universities and research institutes to formulate a comprehensive road map for the development of fishery sector in NE region with an emphasis on efficient and effective management of the available resources through diversification of culture system. Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, GU will inaugurate the workshop as chief guest.

Dr MV Rao, chief executive of NFDB, Hyderabad and Dr AS Ninawe, advisor, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, Dr AP Sharma, Director, CIFRI (ICAR), Barrackpore, Hemanta Narzary, Project Director, AACP, Assam, MK Deka, Director, Fisheries, Assam, KC Sarma, AFDC, Assam; Professor from different universities of the North East, scientists from ICAR institutes, officers from NFDB and state fisheries department will attend the programme as resource persons. The alumni of the department are also axpected to attend the programme, being sponsored by NFDB, Hyderabad, a press release stated.
