GU VC releases book on Anthropology

JALUKBARI, Oct 2 - A book titled Converging spectrum of Anthropology with emphasis on Assam and adjoining areas edited by Prof Dwipen Bezbaruah, head of the Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University, was released online on September 30 by GU Vice Chancellor Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique.

The book is a collection of papers presented at a national seminar held in March 2019 as part of the ongoing programme of UGC-SAP-DRS.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof Handique lauded the effort made by the Department of Anthropology in augmenting the academic atmosphere. He said that the department would play a leading role in materialisation of the proposed project on an ethnological museum.

Prof Vinay Kumar Srivastava, Director, Anthropological Survey of India Kolkota, elaborated on the recent trends in studying anthropology. He suggested that the host department should initiate such studies in Assam and adjoining areas.

Prof Gongisetti Paddaiah, retired professor of Andhra University remarked that the book would be a useful source of insight into various dimensions of anthropological research in the region.

The meeting was also attended by senior faculty including Prof Mini Bhattacharyya Thakur, Dr Gulrukh Begum and Dr Chandana Sarmah besides other faculty members of the host department.
