GU team wins Dilip Baruah inaugural quiz

GUWAHATI, Sept 15 - The Gauhati University team comprising Derajuddin Ahmed and Dhrubajyoti Barman emerged the best team and won the prize money of Rs 25,000 in the inaugural annual Dilip Kumar Baruah Memorial Quiz contest held at the Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University here today.

Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Bhabesh Chandra Goswami lighted the lamp to mark the beginning of the quiz, while former principal of Cotton College Anil Kumar Goswami was the guest of honour at the event organised by Cottonian Class of 75.

The second and third prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 were both bagged by teams from Cotton University comprising Rittwik Bhattacharya and Dipankar Deka and Biswajit Sarma and Raktim Kaushik respectively.

As many as 24 teams from various colleges and professional institutions of the city participated in the quiz conducted by Robin Kalita, who was assisted by Dipankar Kaushik.

Earlier, rich tributes were paid to the memory of late Baruah, who first introduced quiz in the North East during the College Week of Cotton College in 1967.
