GU teachers to block VC office on Sept 27

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 � An emergent executive committee meeting of Gauhati University Teachers� Association (GUTA) held on September 20 decided to block the office of the Gauhati University (GU) Vice Chancellor from 10 am to 4 pm on September 27 in support of the GUTA demands for immediate implementation of the full of UGC pay package including the provision for extending the superannuation age to 65 years.

The September 20 decisions of the GUTA were taken in accordance with the decisions of the emergent general body meeting of the teachers� body held on September 16, said a press release.

The GUTA in its press release stated that classes will be boycotted on September 27 by the GUTA members. However, the pre-scheduled examinations and PhD viva-voce examination will be exempted from the programme.

This agitational programme has been taken to demand: (a) immediate implementation of full UGC pay package inclusive of enhancement of retirement age to 65 years for GU teachers as per UGC revised rules; Implementation of promotion schemes under career advancement schemes without any further delay (CAS) as per new UGC revised rules; (b) implementation of retirement benefits at enhanced rate inclusive of pension (c) immediate payment of gratuity and leave encashment to the retired teachers at enhanced rate which are pending for years together and (d) release of 13 months arrear due before Puja vacation, said thee GUTA in its press release.

The GUTA has also sought an appointment with the Chief Minister at an early date to take up its demands.

It has also decided to move the Gauhati High Court if the age of superannuation of GU teachers is not increased to 65 years within a reasonable time frame, said the GUTA in its press release.
