JALUKBARI, April 6 - The Gauhati University has been ranked 27th among the countrys universities for the second time in a row in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which was released by the MHRD, Government of India recently.

According to GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika, the highlight of this years ranking framework was the consolidated ranking scheme wherein all participating institutions of the country management, technology, universities, medical schools etc., were pooled together in one group and ranked. In this consolidated ranking, GU has achieved an all-India rank of 43. This is very commendable as the only other institution in the North East above GU in rank is IIT Guwahati.

Altogether 232 universities, 1,007 engineering institutions, 542 management institutions, 596 general colleges and 316 pharmacy institutions took part in the ranking exercise. The parameters broadly cover teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception.

Meanwhile, the 26th convocation of the Gauhati University will be held on April 28, where noted scientist Professor CNR Rao will be the chief guest and Professor Worsak Kanok- Nukulchai, president, Asian Institute of Management, Bangkok will be the guest of honour, said Dr Hazarika.
