GU observes International Day of Yoga

GUWAHATI, June 22 - International Day of Yoga was observed by the Gauhati University NSS Cell in association with the Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati Branch yesterday on the university campus with a good number of participants.

Yoga demonstration by practitioners, lecture on yoga, various competitions like debate, quiz and extempore speech, etc., were held on the occasion.

Inaugurating the programme, GU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika said, �Yoga heals our mind, body and soul and hence practice of yoga helps us maintain sanity in our day-to-day life.�

The VC also urged that yoga should be a part of life and he appealed to everyone for regular practice of yoga on the varsity campus.

Attending the programme as an invited speaker, Dipankar Mahanta, a social worker, yoga, entrepreneurship and skill development expert, said yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body.

Mahanta also said practice of yoga leads to union of individual consciousness with that of the universal consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and the body.
