By Correspondent

JALUKBARI, Feb 16 - A 15-member team of professors of different departments of the Gauhati University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Dr Mridul Hazarika, will leave for London on February 21 to take part in the inaugural session of the European chapter of the Gauhati University Overseas Alumni Association (GUOAA), to be held in the London School of Economics on February 27.

Dr Hazarika will attend the function as the chief guest and inaugurate the European chapter of its alumni association. During their stay in London, the team will visit a few important universities and institutions and discuss the future collaboration prospects with faculty members of those institutions.

A number of universities/institutions in the UK have been welcoming the proposed visit of faculty members from the Gauhati University.

It may be mentioned that Dr Hazarika has been taking special initiatives for establishing a linkage among the people having a connection with the university from the past to the present. He has come forward to open an international wing of alumni association of the premier university called the Gauhati University Overseas Alumni Association in order to connect all its alumni across the globe to form a world platform.

Prof Jogen Chandra Kalita, professor of the Department of Zoology, has been acting as the co-coordinator of the overseas alumni affairs. The university has already nominated two joint co-coordinators in the UK, Dr Jayanta B Sarma and Dr Nripen Barkataki, to take necessary steps to initiate the process of opening up the European chapter of the Gauhati University Overseas Alumni Association.

The joint co-ordinators Dr Jayanta B Sarma and Dr Nripen Barkataki, both from England, have been requested to design and develop the European chapter of the GUOAA as a dynamic model. Dr Rituparna Sarma (Bhattacharyya), an alumnus of the GU living in the UK, has also been actively coordinating with different universities in the UK to make the visit a successful one.
