GU, Cotton hostels to be quarantine units

GUWAHATI, May 25 - The Gauhati University and Cotton University hostels today entered the list of institutions requisitioned by the Kamrup Metro district administration to quarantine returnees.

Over 8,100 people are under institutional quarantine in Kamrup Metro as on date and the numbers are expected to go up each day with the resumption of flight services and increased frequency of trains.

The administration has also requisitioned Pragjyotish Senior Secondary School, West Boragaon and St Francis D�Assisi High School, Pub Boragaon to convert them into quarantine centres.

The Gauhati University authorities stated that the administration has requisitioned all the boys� hostels except the Venkata Rao Research Scholars Boys� Hostel (RCC-5) and Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel.

The boarders have been asked to vacate the rooms.

The hostel boarders of Cotton University have appealed to the district administration to provide at least three days time to vacate the hostels.

Apart from the Sarusajai indoor stadium (around 800 capacity), over 130 quarantine centres have been set up in Kamrup Metro district, which include the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre (around 350 capacity), Delhi Public School (around 350 capacity), Kaziranga English Academy (around 250 capacity), the hostel of NPS International School, the guest house of the State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development and Shilpgram along with a number of community halls, dharamshalas and around 110 hotels.
