GTC to raise hostel funds through concert

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - In a bid to raise funds for completing the under construction players hostel, Gauhati Town Club will be organising a musical concert at Guwahati Medical College auditorium here on October 14.

Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas will perform with his troupe in the musical evening where noted Mumbai based Assamese violinist Sunita Khound, combining with renowned tablist Bhushan Parchere will present unique classical composition - Ragas of Bollywood.

Giving details about the musical evening, GTC general secretary Devojit Saikia said in a press conference today that the three-hour show will start at 6.30 pm and it certainly to enthral the audience.

Saikia revealed that the 70 per cent work of the 100-beded hostel have been completed and if they are able to raise funds from this ghazal evening, the hostel will be completed within the next six months. The total budget for constructing of the hostel is Rs 47 lakh. The organisers are expecting a handsome amount from this show as ghazal loving people have shown good response to the programme and out of 1,200 tickets, costing Rs 500, Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 3000, most have been sold out, Saikia said.

Saikia also congratulated Abu Nechim Ahmed on behalf of GTC for his laudable performance in the recently concluded Champions League T20 playing for champions Mumbai Indians. He also urged the Assam Cricket Association to back players like Abu, Arlen Konwar, Gokul Sharma, Tarjinder Singh and others so that they can earn berths atleast in Challenger Trophy or Duleep Trophy teams.

GTC working president Joideep Baruah said two former sportspersons � footballer Naren Nath and tennis player Anup Lahoty � who are suffering from illness, will be provided

Rs 15,000 each as financial assistance for their treatment out of the collection from this function.

The title sponsor of the show is travel company Subhyatra and co-sponsors are � Jindal Saw, Electrosteel, Aircel.

Other GTC officials Amarendra Nath, Sajjad Zaheer Hussain, Bulbul Choudhury, Subhyatra MD Sachin Jain were also present in the press conference.
