GTC, NFR play draw

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 - Displaying a superb spirit in the second session Gauhati Town Club (GTC) rallied to draw 2-2 against NF Railway Sports Club in their RG Baruah Super Division Football League.

In an entertaining encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today, till the 54th minute the GTC team was trailing 0-2. But after that they got their act together and fired two salvos which earned them one point.

The NF Rly was the better team in the first session and distictly dominated the proceeding with perfect team work. They went ahead in the 27th minute through KC Lal. Sankar Sil set the ball for Lal with a delicate back head off a flag kick taken by Raju Singh. Lal just had to push home from a close range (1-0). In the 41st minute Chayaram Basumatary made it 2-0 with a header from inside the box. Sibra Narzary sent a measured floater to Chaya who smartly headed home.

But the boots were on the other feet after changing over as the GTC boys shook up with renewed vigour. They earned a penalty in the 54th minute when railway defender Punakon Chowrok brought down GTC forward Olaniram Joseph inside the box. Skipper Lenin Angom beat railway coustdian from the 12-yard spot with a confidently taken shot.

After that the GTC boys took completed control over the situation and created a couple of goal bound moves.

In the 65th minute Medoneto Sekhose sent a defence splitting pass to Joseph and taking control of the ball he banged into the goal from inside the box (2-2). Railway custodian Sukanta Roy was responsible for this goal as he should have come forward for blocking Joseph.

With today�s drawn match NF Rly team has collected 9 points from six matches while Town is at fifth place in the table with 6 points from as many matches.

City Police pip Kamrupa: City Police edged past Kamrup FC 1-0 in the A Division Football League for the Jibeswar Goswami Trophy.

On the second ground of the Nehru Stadium Hrishikesh Medhi netted the all important goal in the 58th minute.
