GUWAHATI, June 9 � The Gauhati Town Club (GTC) launched its Grassroots Development Centre, under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Assam Football Association, in a function held at GTC auditorium here today. Anju Turambekar, Grassroot Development Manager and Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta were present on the occasion as guests. Altogether 40 players in the age group of 6 to 12 years have been selected for the centre after holding a selection trial. Anju, while speaking on the occasion, thanked GTC.
Ankur Dutta said the State football body has spotted 22 coaching centres in different places which will work to nurture youngsters.
GTC secretary Devojit Saikia informed that the GTC Football Academy, which was formed on February 1, 2010 but remained non-functional since 2013, will be revived in July. The selection process will be held tomorrow.
This time, the GTC Academy will tie-up with a German Club.
