GTC earn full points against FCI

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 � Gauhati Town Club (GTC) are sitting pretty in the RG Baruah Super Division Football League with eight points from four outings.

Dynamo Club is ahead of GTC in the points table with a better goal difference although both the teams have the same points.

In their fourth encounter of this season at the Nehru Stadium here today, GTC edged out Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 1-0. The match winning goal was netted by Nabin Chariya in the 28th minute of the match.

After today�s defeat, FCI is in dire straits with just two points in their kitty from four matches. They are sitting at the bottom of the table.

Basically it was a lack lustre encounter where both the teams were unable to display a methodical game throughout the course. Town boys, however, enjoyed territorial supremacy marginally.

For GTC, midfielder Khuanjeng Kamei and striker Festus Onoriode Johnyah worked hard and covered lots of ground. It was due to due to their tireless efforts GTC managed to create several openings in the match. Town skipper Shahid also played a vital role in the deep defence and guided his co-defenders in foiling FCI moves at their danger zone.

FCI�s midfield zone had lots of open spaces and as a result Town attackers Kamei and Johnayah managed to drag the ball from the centre circle towards the FCI goal area. Miss passes by FCI players were frequent and it put them in trouble throughout the match.

But in the later part of the match, FCI players, led by skipper David March Gayari and Imlitoshi, put ample pressure on the Town defence. At the fag end of the match, Imlitoshi quandard a golden opportunity of equalising the issue. He failed to beat Town keeper Shyam Sunder Reddy in a point blank situation.

Prior to that, Town missed a spot kick in the 71st minute. Johnayah was brought down by FCI defender Lalbeiseia Hnamte inside the box and a penalty was awarded to GTC. But Kamei�s left-footed shot went wide.

Nabajyoti gain vital points: Nabajyoti Club defeated Jewel Star 1-0 in the A Division League today.

After a barren first session in the evenly played match, Lalrelfela fired the match winner in the 73rd minute. It was Nabajyoti�s third consecutive victory in four outings.
