GTC club house inaugurated

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 � The newly-built club house of the historic Gauhati Town Club (GTC) was formally inaugurated by State Health Minister and GTC president Himanta Biswa Sarma in a well attended function here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said the club is now running training centres of football, cricket, chess, swimming and by next year they will start a tennis centre too.

He further revealed that next year, the players of the GTC Football Academy will be sent to Brazil for an exposure tour. The club will also set up a benevolent fund of Rs 50 lakh for the players, Sarma said.

State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, who was also present on the occasion as guest, released the GTC centenary souvenir, while MP Biswajit Daimary inaugurated the club website.

The club will construct separate buildings for its football team players and academy inmates, added Sarma.

Former president Jagannath Sarma and present secretary Devojit Saikia were also present on the occasion.
