GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary today, organised a webtalk on the theme Guwahati Tea Auction Centre and the Tea Industry to mark the occasion.

Guwahati Tea Auction Centre Chairman Dr KK Dwivedi opened the event with his congratulations and best wishes to the centre. The keynote speakers for the event were Ravi Suchanti, CMD, J Thomas & Co Pvt Ltd., Anshuman Kanoria, Chairman, Indian Tea Exporters Association and Abhijeet Hazarika, Consultant, TSigma Consultancy.

P Dutta, Secretary, Guwahati Tea Auction Centre said that the celebrations for the 50th year of GTAC started on September 27, 2019 itself when GTAC organised a manual auction for its stakeholders to revisit the memories of the time when the auctions used to be conducted in the outcry system. He further said that with the introduction of the e-auction system, the members used to miss the older manual system which used to involve a lot of personal interaction between the stakeholders, so it was only right to take them down the memory lane by holding the manual auction on the start of the its golden jubilee year.

C Chaliha, chairman of the golden jubilee working committee of GTAC said there were plans to host sporting events during the month of March and April and a mega event on this day to mark the completion of 50 years of the centre, but because of the pandemic situation, the plans had to be shelved.

Dipanjol Deka, member of the golden jubilee working committee, said that there would be deferred celebrations once the situation improves.
