GST to solve tax evasion issue

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Sept 21 - The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is considered to be very beneficial in checking tax evasion by the businessmen of the district, where illegal non-payment or underpayment of taxes has always been an issue.

While addressing a media workshop on Goods and Service Tax organised by the office of Additional Tax Commissioner (ATC) and office of DIPRO, Subroto Chakraboty, ATC, Dhubri said, With the implementation of the GST, tax evasion in the district will be a history. Many business houses of the district were inspected and raided by the authorities for underpayment of various taxes. But with the implementation of the GST, tax evasion by such houses will be nearly impossible, said Chakraboty, adding that every business transaction is under the scanner and if someone tries to cheat, he will get caught within minutes.

Meanwhile, after the implementation of this new tax system, many people in the district are facing issues while filing their GST return. Some are also complaining that they are finding it tough to understand this new tax system.

Addressing various issues Chakraboty said, GST is as easy as Facebook. Anyone who can use the social media can procure their GST number or file their return. All we need is to understand, under what slab, the product we are dealing with falls.

Chakraboty, in presence of DIPRO Bikash Sharma, and Dhubri Press Club president Bijay Sharma, along with a host of other dignitaries, urged that the people should not panic, but try to understand the GST. Although GST is very vast but if we deal with only the products or services, we do business and try to understand in that way it will be very easy.
