TEZPUR, April 30 As part of the Armys social service under Operation Sadbhavana, greenhouses were handed over to farmers on Monday in a bid to assist them. It may be mentioned here that the Dogra Regiment of the Red Horns Division of the Army, stationed in the Misamari-Kalamati area under the Misamari PS of Sonitpur district, apart from dealing with insurgency, has been involved in other social issues by undertaking various humanitarian projects for the native population. As part of this, the Red Horns Division undertook the construction of four greenhouses at Joisiddi village in the Sootea area, Selaikhati near Nameri, Pabhoi and Jinjia, Biswanath Chariali in Sonitpur district under Operation Sadbhavana.

These greenhouses were handed over to the farmers by the gaonburahs of the villages concerned. Army authorities told this correspondent that the construction of the greenhouses would enhance cultivation through the adoption of modern techniques. The project is aimed at improving the overall development in the areas and helping youths in getting involved in constructive engagements.

The local people have appreciated the efforts of the Army. We feel this initiative will not only provide succour to the villagers of the area but will also help in weaning youths away from militancy, the Army authorities maintained.
