Green Valley relegated to A Division

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 Green Valley Sports Club have to play in the A Divison in the Guwahati Sports Associations football league next year as it became clear that they will be placed at the bottom in this seasons Super Division.

In their penaltimate match of the RG Baruah Super League at the Nehru Stadium here today, Green Valley went down to Assam Police Blues 0-1.

A win in the last match against Sunrise on September 1 may give them three more points and their total will come to eight. But that will not be sufficient to topple other relegation groups teams Sunrise (9 pts), FCI (10 pts) and Assam Police Blues (11 pts). In other religation group match of the day, Sunrise and FCI Sports Club shared points playing a goalless draw.

The Green valley-Police Blues match was quite interesting as for both the teams it was a make or break like situation. But it was the cops who took the early lead in the 19th minute and defended their goal till the final whistle. Green Valley could blame their goalkeeper Tonmoy Sarkar who could not grip the ball and as it rebounded off his elbow, opportunist Police striker Kajaigek Rongmai pushed home from a close range.

In the later part of the match, Green Valley went all out in search of the equaliser and even scored a goal in the 75th minute which was, however nulified by the referee calling it off side.

The match between Sunrise and FCI was a dull one as both the teams adopted defensive tactics. The ball roamed around the midfield in most of the time. Not a single positive move was observed throughout the course. Todays matches: (Championship round) ASEB vs NF Rly; Dynamo vs GTC.
