Green Valley post 2-0 victory against Sunrise

GUWAHATI, Aug 3 � Experienced striker Sanjeeba Rongpi scored a brace to give his team Green Valley Sports Club a victory against Sunrise Athletic Club in the GSA Super Division Football League match for the RG Baruah Trophy.

In a well contested encounter in the first ground of the Nehru Stadium here today, Sanjiba fired the first salvo in the 35th minute off a set piece while in the 61st minute he converted a spot kick to make the scoreline 2-0.

Players of both the teams were on their toes from the initial stage and got down to business on a positive note. But Greev Valley midfielders � Clearence Carter Ezebube and Kwabene � proved to be better and managed to control the middle third of the pitch. As a result, their frontliners Sanjeeba and George Prince got the ball quite frequently at the Sunrise striking zone.

Sunrise defenders had a tough time throughout the course as their midfielders left enough passage for the opponent players.

Vikram Singh and Tonmay Halder tried to collect their attackers but all their efforts were neutralized at the initial stage. Sunrise frontline players � captain Agyekum Enoch Amof and Edoho Gilbert � hardly could do anything for their team. Green Valley goalkeeper Tonmoy Karmakar also played a vital role in saving his side from conceding a goal.

Sanjeeva drew first blood with a beautifully taken direct 22-yard free-kick which virtually fooled Sunrise custodian Manish Chetry at the far post.

Green Valley earned a penalty when Sunrise defender Bikram Haldar handled the ball inside the box. Sanjeeva smartly drove home to enhanced the margin to 2-0.

In the later part of the match, Sunrise captain Amof missed the opportunity to reduce the margin as he failed to beat the solitary Tonmoy from inside the box.

Sunrise today could not show their previous form and all the players looked tired and jaded. On the other hand, Green Valley, who lost their opening match to NF Railway, made a tremendous improvement.

Rising down Rajbari: Rising XI defeated Rajbari Athletic Club 2-1 in the A Division League.

Indrajit Sonowal scored both the goals for Rising in the 15th and 23rd minutes while substitute L Domen Singh reduced the margin in the 60th minute.

Today�s matches: (Super Div) FCI vs NFR; (A Div) Abutani SC vs Nabajyoti.
