Green Valley pip GTC

By Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 20 The poor run of Gauhati Town Club, winners of the recently concluded NN Bhatta Trophy, continued in the RG Baruah GSA Super League football Tournament as they suffered yet another defeat today.

In a mediocre encounter at the Nehru Stadium here, they went down to Green Valley Sports Club. The lone goal of the match was scored by Agha Samson in the 49th minute after a dry first session.

It was the third defeat for Town Club and are in a dire straits as far relegation to the A Division is concerned. They have just one point in their kitty from four outings.

Green Valley attackers today created more openings in comparison to their counterpart but failed to avail the opportunities. Foreign players, Agha Samson and Ekwueme Alex Amchi, combining with Apurba Phukan made their way to the Town goal area on several occasions but due to some good anticipation by the Town defenders they were not able to break the deadlock till the 49th minute. Finally, Samson beat the Town goalkeeper Manosh Dawn when he fumbled in gathering the ball off a shot from Amchi.

Town attackers, Rocky Philem, John Nnanna and Ricky Lalou, gave a tough time to the Green Valley defenders through out the course. Todays matches: AP Blues vs ASEB; Dynamo vs SAI.
