GUWAHATI, Aug 30 � In two relegation group matches of the GSA Super League Football Championship for the RG Baruah Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here today, Green Valley Sports Club handed a 3-1 drubbing to Gauhati Town Club, while Dynamo Club posted a 3-0 victory against SAI Sports Club.
Although it was an evenly played match on the first ground, the Town boys failed to utilise the scoring opportunities which the Green Valley strikers did.
Ditchung Cheru struck in the 31st and 45th minute to give Green Valley a comfortable lead at the break.
Town managed to reduce the margin in the 68th minute when their Brazilian recruit Roger Viera Barbosa converted a spot kick. But their campaign to make a comeback went up in smoke when substitute Santosh Chetia scored a beautiful goal in the 78th minute.
With this defeat, Town now is in real danger of facing relegation to the A Division. With just one match remaining they are at bottom with 7 points. Now they are in a must-win situation against Dynamo Club on Wednesday.
Dynamo today played a spirited game and pumped in three goals against SAI Sports Club which is also in a danger zone with 8 points as far relegation is concerned.
The star of the match was Nigerian Oneybi Nandos Ogbonna who fired all the salvos for Dynamo in the 20th, 32nd and 77th minutes.
SAI boys were totally outplayed in every department as the fast moving Dynamo players applied their strategy in a right way from the very beginning.
