Green Valley continue wining run

GUWAHATI, June 28 � City outfit FC Green Valley registered their eighth victory out of nine matches they played in the Assam State Premier League.

In their home match today at the Nehru Stadium here, FC Green Valley edged past spirited Udalguri FC 2-1.

Thomson Langthasa opened the account for the host team in the 29th minute anticipating a centre from Rudra Boro.

But the Udalguri boys staged a tremendous fightback and drew level in the 44th minute converting a spot kick. Green Valley defender Namdi Jonathan Obuene fouled on Ishak Sangma inside the box and a penalty kick was awarded to Udalguri FC. Subungsa Daimari made no mistake in shooting home.

After changing over both the team fought almost equally on the slippery ground caused by a smart shower. But till the 73th minute no team could hit the target. Udalguri deep defender Birendra Narzary handled the ball inside their box and referee whistled for a spot kick in favour of the host team. Michael Lucky fired home from the 12-yard spot which sealed the fate of the match. With today�s win, Green Valley raised their point tally to 25 from nine outings and remained at the top of the Lower Assam Zone table.

At Golaghat: Host team Golaghat Rhino outplayed Moran Town Club 5-1.

Dominating the proceeding from the initial stage Nigerian FO Abidemi put the host team ahead in the 15th minute. He also netted another goal in the 88th minute. Sirondeep Singh (41st and injury time) and Gorachand Marandi (extra time in the first half) were the other scorers. For Moran, Rizatmi Singh netted the lone goal in the 23rd minute.

At Gossaigaon: Global FC pipped Tezpur United 1-0 in their home match today. Mithinga Brahma netted the match winning goal in the 88th minute.

Our Tinsukia correspondent adds: Karbi Anglong Morning Star registered a 2-0 victory against host Barekuri FC in the Assam State Premier League at the Katchujan field, Tinsukia today.

Both the goals of the visiting team were scored by Orok Orok Essein in the 19th and 71st minutes respectively. Barekuri�s AK Martin was given marching order at the fag end of the match.
