DOOMDOOMA, April 5 - Continuous theft of green tea leaves in tea gardens of Doomdooma area has become a matter of serious concern. On Tuesday night, a group of green tea leaves thieves attacked a group of chowkidars of Baghjan Tea Estate under Baghjan PS of Doomdooma circle.

According to police, a group of chowkidars was attacked by the thieves when they tried to prevent the thieves who were plucking tea leaves in the Section No. 32 of the garden around 2 am. In this attack, all the eight chowkidars of the garden were injured, three of them seriously.

In the morning, the garden authority filed an FIR at Baghjan PS. The irate labourers of the garden gheraoed the Baghjan PS and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The Baghjan TE unit of ACMS also filed an FIR and demanded the police to arrest the culprits within 24 hours. Police registered a case (no. 1/18) in this connection. The seriously injured three chowkidars were sent to Assam Medical College & Hospital for better treatment.
