Green haat inaugurated

JALUKBARI, Jan 5 - Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the IIE Green Haat for Organic Entrepreneurs, IIE Entrepreneurs� Haat and Business Incubation Centre for Handloom, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) here today.

In his inaugural speech Sonowal said organic farming would also help in improving the environmental condition and prove helpful in breaking the stagnation in the farming sector. He also appreciated the initiatives taken by IIE for organic farming and promoting it among the rural youths.

The Incubation Centre for Handloom is an initiative of IIE to provide opportunity for holistic development of youths of the NE region through training and by making them realise their full potential by building up their capacities.

Sonowal expressed hope that the Business Incubation Centre for Handloom would develop the entrepreneurial abilities among the youths of the region. He appreciated IIE for playing a catalytic role in imparting and promoting training to the youths and empowering them through training on entrepreneurship development, skill development and promotion of clusters.

IIE Director Manoj Kr Das said the IIE Green Haat would serve as a platform for organic food growers to sell their produce and residents of Guwahati city would be able to get healthy food. The NE is organic by default and the Government of India has put special emphasis on creating an organic hub in the region.

Organic farming is a process of crop and livelihood production that involves much more than choosing not to use pesticides, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics or growth hormones.
