Green Building Council, Guwahati chapter

GUWAHATI, June 24 - The Guwahati Chapter of the Green Building Council (IGBC) was launched at a function here today by Urban Development and Town Planning Minister Atul Bora. The Minister also launched India�s first comprehensive rating for greening villages � IGBC Green Village Rating System, said a press release issued by the CII.

Speaking on the occasion, Bora said that the State Government will work with the IGBC on how green building projects can be incentivized. He also urged the IGBC to team up with the State Government in building Guwahati as a green and smart city.

Nodal Officer of State PWD�s Environment Cell Shantanoo Bhattacharyya highlighted the urgent need to address the challenges of delivering sustainable urban development services.

IGBC chairman Dr Prem Chand Jain said that the launch of the Guwahati Chapter of the IGBC marks opening of a new chapter in the IGNC�s mission of greening India. The IGBC will continue to play a catalytic role in building a greener and healthier India, he said.

Chairman, CII Assam State Council S K Barua said that the CII is working closely with all the stakeholders in facilitating growth of India as one of the global leaders in green business by 2022.

The function was also addressed by architect Ramendra Baishya, co-chairman of the IGBC Guwahati Chapter P K Sarma and CII Assam State Council vice chairman Jahnabi Phookan.

At the function, CII Green Pro certificate was presented to British Paints and Berger Paints and the IFBC Green School Rating was presented to Royal Global School, said the press release.
