Grand celebration of art and culture organised

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - A grand celebration of art and culture was organised by the Nartan Kala Niketan at the Rabindra Bhawan here on Monday evening. Eminent artistes from the region were present on the occasion.

At the event noted theatre personality Krishna Roy was awarded the �Anandamohan Bhagawati Nartan Botah� and also honoured with the �Natyapran� title for his contributions as an artiste.

The event was inaugurated by Raju Das, deputy secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi.

Three meritorious students � Mridusmita Das, Usharani Baishya and Bobirani Talukdar � of the academy were felicitated at the event. Haricharan Bhuyan and Kuldeep Patgiri were also felicitated, in acknowledgement of their work in the field of Sattriya dance and mime respectively.

Retired bureaucrat Swapnanil Baruah; Pritam Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, Education and Cultural Affairs; Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, ex-VC, Tezpur University and Gauhati University; actor Pranjal Saikia and journalist Nitumoni Saikia were also present on the occasion and felicitated Krishna Roy.

About 200 students kept the audience spellbound with their Sattriya dance performances. The event was led by Nrityaratna Kalaguru Ramkrishna Talukdar and Ruby Talukdar.
