Graft cases against former ministers being probed

GUWAHATI, April 2 - Corruption cases against former ministers Rakibul Hussain, Akon Bora and Atawa Munda are being investigated, the Assembly was informed today.

In a written reply to a question by Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary told the House on behalf of the Home Minister that a disproportionate asset case against MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed � the then forest ranger of Maibang � is also being inquired into.

Rakibul Hussain and Atawa Munda have a case pending in connection with misappropriation of government money in the P&RD department, while Hussain also has a disproportionate case which is being inquired into.

Inquiry is on against former minister Akon Bora in connection with a case of misappropriation of money in the social welfare department as well as a disproportionate asset case.

Ex-CEM of KAAC, Jotson Bey also has a disproportionate case against him. Former MLA Ataur Rahman Mazharbhuya has a corruption case related to the Assembly, while former legislator Abdul Muhib Mazumdar has both corruption (DRDA department) and disproportionate assets cases against him which are under investigation.
