GPC to provide free education to kids of journalists in distress

GUWAHATI, Oct 24 - The Gauhati Press Club on Thursday announced a special initiative � Gift a Child Education��� under which wards of full-time journalists, who expire in harness or get terminally ill and find it hard to support his or her child�s education due to unforeseen circumstances, will be provided free education.

As part of the programme, which is believed to be first of its kind initiative by any registered club in India, the GPC has collaborated with 12 top schools, said GPC general secretary Sanjoy Ray, while expressing gratitude to all the empanelled schools.

The schools are Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya,�Guru Nanak High School, Guwahati Public School, Happy Montessori High School, International School Guwahati, Modern English High School, Maria�s Public School, Royal Global School, South Point School, Souvenir Secondary School, St Vivekananda English Academy and Sai Vikash Group of Institutions.

Ray added that the GPC is in touch with some other schools as well in this regard.

The initiative will come into effect from the next academic year and the date for formal launch of the programme will be announced soon.

The GPC has also launched its official website www.gauhatipress.com, which will be developed gradually with some add-on features.
