By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, June 22 - Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry Piyush Vedprakash Goyal has lauded the North East as well as State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for their fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Goyal, who was in conversation with the Vice Chancellor of Royal Global University (RGU) Prof SP Singh at a webinar COVID-19: Distance covered and road ahead organised by RGU on Monday, said that the North East, and especially Sonowal and Dr Sarma, were setting examples for the rest of the country in the fight against the pandemic.

Minister Goyal said that India has recorded just 3 per cent COVID-19 cases of the world, less than 5 per cent mortality rate and 55 per cent recovery rate. The lockdown from 24 March sped up production of PPE, ventilators, masks, medicines (also supplying to 150 countries and free of cost to 43 countries), he added.

Goyal also asserted that these COVID times have brought about positivity in Indians, who are displaying immense discipline in adhering to the state directives. This was stated in an RGU press release here this evening.
