Govt will act against corruption, illegal mining: State BJP chief

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 1 - The State government is committed to acting against any kind of wrongdoing, including corruption and illegal mining, which may come to its notice, said State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass addressing the media here today.

Dass was speaking to the media to mark completion of the first year of the Modi governments second term in office and four years of the Sonowal administration.

To a question regarding allegations of illegal rate-hole mining and irregularities in selection of beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN Scheme, Dass said the government has acted swiftly whenever anything has come to light.

He said that the Chief Minister has already ordered an inquiry into the issue of allegations of irregularities in selection of beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN Scheme. Anyone found guilty will not be spared, Dass said.

He added that if anybody has any specific allegations then he or she should come forward and approach the government or the police or the judiciary.

People should come forward and lodge FIR. The government will act immediately. The State government is committed to removing any lacunae that may exist, Dass said, adding that people can also directly approach the Chief Ministers office to file complaints. If any BJP worker is indulging in any malpractice, then anybody is free to approach me and we will take immediate action, said Dass.

He said that a three-member delegation of the State BJP had recently undertaken a visit to upper Assam to look into allegations of illegal rat-hole mining and it has submitted a report to the partys State unit. The findings of the report will be discussed with BJPs national president JP Nadda before being made public.

Dass said that BJP and its alliance partners are aiming to secure 100 plus seats in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections.

With regular political activities coming to a standstill in the past few weeks on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown, the State BJP has decided to launch a month-long campaign in June to reach out to voters at their homes and by social media to publicise the various developmental activities and achievements of the Modi and Sonowal governments.

Dass said that the public outreach programmes will be conducted maintaining social distancing norms.

He also discounted reports about tension between the BJP and its alliance partner BPF.

Dass said that BJP decided to contest the BTC polls, which have been suspended due to the pandemic and the lockdown, on its own as the partys cadres in the BTAD wanted it to go it alone.

We fought against the AGP in the panchayat elections. But AGP ministers continued to serve in our government, said the State BJP chief.

Dass said that Assam will benefit to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore from the Rs 20 lakh crore package announced by the Prime Minister recently.

There is a lot for Assam in the package announced by the Prime Minister. Assam will receive up to Rs 10,000 crore, Dass said, adding that relaxation in treasury and overdraft rules, refinancing of loans to local and rural banks by NABARD and other measures will benefit the State a lot.

The package will help us work towards creating an Atmanirbhar Assam, said Dass.

He said that both the Central and the State governments have been successful in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proactive role played by the State government and the cooperation extended by the people of Assam have ensured that we have been so far able to prevent community transmission, said the BJP leader.

Dass claimed that there has been close coordination between the government and the party during the last four years of the Sonowal regime.

He said that during the first year of the second term of the NDA regime, the Modi government has achieved many successes and mentioned scrapping of Article 370, abolition of Triple Talaq, passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and the Rs 20 lakh crore-package as among the major achievements.

Dass added that during the four years of the Sonowal-led government the law-and-order situation in Assam has improved, rhino killings have come down, infrastructure development projects have been implemented, pilferage has been curbed by use of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, encroachments on forest land including Kaziranga have been removed and forest cover in Assam has gone up by 222 square km.
