By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, May 17 Arunachal Government has warned of taking stern action against individuals and groups (of individuals) indulging in misuse of social media for disturbing communal harmony in the State and targeting people in government level for the sake of maligning their images before the society.

Individuals and groups using fake IDs have been spreading concocted and misleading information in the social media especially Facebook targeting influential personalities in the government.

There have been deliberate attempt to defame and malign the image of personalities and the government to create chaos in the society, alleged government spokesperson Bamang Felix, in a press statement here today.

Without naming anyone or any group, he further said, There are evidences of using the social media to create communal hatred and disharmony in the State which has been seriously taken note of by the State Government.

The State Government has directed the State Police and IT agencies to keep a close vigil to unearth all the fake ID users in the social media and take serious actions (against persons involved in such malpractices) as per the IT Act and relevant sections under IPC.

Government further directed to ban those groups in the social media which have been promoting such fake IDs by posting their status in their blog, which intends to create social disharmony, communal hatred and create law and order problem. These groups will now be held responsible for spreading false rumours and creating unrest in the society.

He also informed that recently, a fake account holder had posted a wrong and malicious post claiming Government Spokesperson and Parliamentary Secretary Education, IPR and Printing Bamang Felix to have resigned from his post owing to distorted facts which was apparently published in one of the regional newspaper too.

In this regard, Felix had lodged a complaint with the Itanagar PS requesting the police to nab the culprit at the earliest and award him exemplary punishment.

Social media is a means to connect with each other, unite people, create bonhomie, bridge distances and share constructive views and not at all a tool to promote communal hatred, malign the image of individuals or organisation or spreading rumours.

The State Government appeals to its citizens to use social media for constructive purposes instead of creating chaos and hatred in the society and urge upon them to maintain the information technology ethics, Felix added.
