GUWAHATI, May 29 - Urging the State government to engage homoeopathic doctors in the fight against Covid-19, the Homoeopathic Medical Association of India, Assam Branch, has called upon Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to devise a policy to utilise the service of the homoeopaths of Assam as coronavirus warriors and also to take initiatives to distribute Arsenic Album as an immunity booster among the people in general and those under quarantine in particular.
�Homoeopaths of Assam are ready to serve the people wholeheartedly if the government provides the required facilities. Though around 250 homoeopathic doctors are serving under the NHM Assam and the State Health Services, the government can appoint more homoeopaths to utilise their services effectively during this crucial period.
�Secondly, although the homoeopathic medicine Arsenic Album 30 is not a preventive one for Covid-19, yet, being an effective immunity booster, it can help in prevention of Covid-19,� Dr MK Deka and Dr Gunen Sarma, president and general secretary respectively of the Association, told The Assam Tribune. They added that the government can also facilitate free distribution of Arsenic Album 30 among the people.
The Association further suggested that the government utilise the Homoeopathic Medical Colleges of Assam as quarantine centres.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, in its letter D.O. no.S.163/18/2019-NAM dated March 6, 2020, had directed the Principal Secretaries of all the states to utilise the homoeopathic drug Arsenic Album 30 daily for three days.
�The dose should be repeated after one month by following the same schedule, till the coronavirus infection prevailed in the community, as an immuno-booster/preventive medicine. In the same latter, it is also mentioned that various medicines found to be effective in treating flu-like illnesses include Arsenic Album, Bryonia Alba, Rhus Tox, Belladonna and Eupatorium Perforatum. All these medicines should be taken in consultation with a qualified homoeopathic physician,� Sarma said.
Many states such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Telangana, Delhi and Manipur have distributed this medicine among the public during awareness programmes, besides in the quarantine centres. �We urge the State government, the Health Minister in particular, to facilitate distribution of Arsenic Album,� he added.
As of now the homoeopaths are rendering their services in screening of people at different places, quarantine centres and public health centres, etc, but not in direct treatment of COVID-19 in the State.
Pointing out that the Gujarat government has distributed AYUSH-recommended medicines to 70 lakh people as well as in the quarantine centres yielding positive results, the Association said the Assam government should take a similar initiative in the form of a policy to utilise the services of the State�s homeopaths and distribute medicines immediately.
