NALBARI, June 16 - AASU chief adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya has called upon the Union Government to set up four national-level educational institutions in the state as goodwill of the BJP Government towards the people of Assam.
Addressing a meeting organised by the Nalbari district unit of AASU at Nalbari Law College auditorium on Saturday to felicitate meritorious students of the district, Dr Bhattacharya said that in order to check brain drain, the state should have some national and international-level institutions for higher education.
In order to show goodwill of the BJP Government towards the people of Assam, the AASU leader requested the government to set up the proposed Indian Institute of Science and Research, and Indian Institute of Management in the state.
He also requested the Government to set up a river research institute along with a research institute on herbal plants in the state.
He called upon the meritorious students to lead the society in the proper direction in future. Referring to the draft of the new education policy, Dr Bhattacharya said that it must be ensured that the future of the students are secure.
Speaking in the felicitation meeting, noted educationist Professor Dr Umesh Deka said that the students should nurture an emotional bond with their families and the society. He added that the use of technology may have increased the intelligence of the new generation, but has unfortunately reduced their thought process and level of emotional bonding.
Addressing the meeting, Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury said that the present evaluation system was totally discriminatory as all the students cannot be assessed equally. The Deputy Commissioner observed that the students should not be mentally harassed for ensuring a secure social position of the guardians in future.
In her speech, Amanjit Kaur, Superintendent of Police of Nalbari called upon the students to fulfil the aspirations of the society. The meeting was presided over by Gunajyoti Pathak and was addressed by AASU leaders Himan Barman and Bhabajit Bezbaruah. The meeting was conducted by Akshay Deka, general secretary of Nalbari district unit of AASU while Nilkamal Barman delivered the welcome address.
