Govt urged to solve Panbazar civic woes

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 � Voluntary organization Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has demanded immediate steps from the Government to solve the civic problems facing the Panbazar area of the city. The organisation also called for immediate steps to improve the condition of the roads of the area.

The president of the SGBG, Dhiren Baruah said that Panbazar area is one of the oldest business centres of the city but unfortunately, till date, the Government has not been able to deal with the problems facing the area. He said that the prominent businessmen and senior citizens of the area met in the Harisabha premises to discuss the problems facing the locality and identified some of the major problems.

Baruah said that in recent times, the Panbazar area becomes deserted at around 7 pm while, the Fancy bazar area remains crowded till late in the night. He expressed the view that there is urgent need for dealing with the civic problems of the area to ensure that people can freely move around till late hours.

The SGBG president said that the road in front of the Ram temple should be reopened immediately and immediate steps should be taken to improve the condition of the roads like Lakhtokia road, Danish road etc. He said that the 125 off traders should be shifted from the Lakhtokia road to elsewhere in the city.

Baruah said that immediate steps should be taken for beautification of the Nakkata pukhuri and its surroundings to make the place attractive for the citizens. He said that steps should be taken to set up benches around the pond so that people can enjoy themselves and adequate lighting facilities should be made in and around the pond to make the place a secured one.

Hailing the authorities for the step initiated for the construction of the second flyover in Panbazar adjacent to the old one, Baruah said that the Public Works Department should ensure that the Panbazar area does not face water logging problem following the construction of the bridge.

The SGBG further said that the quarters of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police etc should be shifted and public parks should be constructed in the area.
