Govt urged to clarify stand on regularisation

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 The All Assam Contractual Teachers Association has asked the State Education Minister to make his stand clear on the regularization and pay-hike of the contractual teachers.

Ruing the contradictory statements made by the education commissioner, State Education Directorate and the State Education Minister himself, the association said that these different stands are confusing the contractual teachers of the State.

Last year in August, the State Education Department appointed 6,000 contractual teachers on the basis of merit for the ME Schools who are extending their service at Rs 8,000 per month. But an advertisement recently published by the Education Directorate for ME Schools teachers have created confusion among the contractual teachers, a statement mentioned.

At one hand, the education commissioner (ME) recently told a delegation of the association to ask the contractual teachers to apply for the vacant posts. When a team led by the associations president Khanindra Barman met the State Education Minister Gautam Bora, he said that the salary of contractual teachers would be increased to Rs 10,000 per month and gradually, their posts would be regularized. Significantly, he also mentioned that the contractual teachers need not apply for the vacant posts as they would have to submit their resignation before that, the statement added.

The association also warned that if the State government and its education department do not make their stand clear on the regularization of the contractual teachers, it would cause obstructions in the appointment of other teachers.
