Govt trying to scuttle scam probe: AGP

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 25 The main opposition the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday alleged that the Tarun Gogoi led Congress government was trying to put the lid on the multi crore NC Hills scam and demanded the inquiry into the fund misappropriation by the CBI as recommended in the NIA report.

Addressing media persons here, the spokesperson of the AGP Atul Bora alleged that after the recovery of the huge sum from the residence of a relative of RH Khan, the prime accused in the NC Hills scam, the Chief Minister and his colleagues were making every effort to divert the issue of NC Hills scam by digging up old concluded issues.

Bora referring to the NIA report said that it had suggested an inclusive investigation into the NC Hills scam and pointed out that the CBI which is probing into the case would be hamstrung if the government hands only selected cases and departments for investigation.

The government is trying to limit the scope of the CBI said Bora further alleging that the Congress government has started resorting to blackmailing the opposition by raising issues considered concluded.

As the main opposition, the AGP will continue to be the watch dog and criticize the government whenever there is a lapse. But the Congress government has divulged its fascist character by blackmailing the opposition, said Bora.

Bora informed that the party has decided to garner public opinion on the NC Hills scam at the national level and to launch a State wide movement demanding a thorough and impartial inquiry into the NC Hills scam. On June 28, the party will stage dharna in all the districts.

On the other hand, the party has demanded of the Chief Minister to declare the assets of the Ministers as promised by him. The party has also demanded of the Chief Minister and his spokesperson to announce the name of the two Ministers who had met RH Khan three days back when he was brought before the medical board.

Taking into task the Health Minister for his announcement that he would go for self immolation if allegation against him of receiving a luxury car from RH Khan is proved, the party said that the Health Ministers unhealthy remark was reflective of mental imbalance and an offence under the law.

Meanwhile the Asom Juba Parishad in a statement said that the politics of the Congress flourishes on blackmailing and vengeance.
