GUWAHATI, May 4 - Post relaxation of lockdown guidelines, the State transport department has taken initiatives to resume public transportation through the Assam State Public Transport Corporation (ASTC).
According to a statement, the department has ensured strict compliance of all the safety guidelines like social distancing to safeguard public health along with use of masks and disinfecting of the buses after each trip.
It has also deployed joint enforcement teams to monitor movement of buses and to ensure that more than 50 per cent of the seats are not occupied and that small passenger vehicles do not carry more than two passengers.
The department will also make arrangements to ensure that the people of Assam stranded in various Northeastern states can safely return to their homes. It is coordinating with the governments of all NE states in this regard.
