Govt trying to malign Cong image: APCC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 3 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today alleged that the present regime in the State is out to malign the Congress by indicting its ex-ministers and present MLAs and MPs for misusing power and indulging in corruption.

This approach of the BJP-led State government is linked with the ensuing Panchayat elections, it alleged.

APCC senior spokesman Durgadas Boro said in a statement that the BJP earlier used to accuse some ministers and MLAs of the previous regime of corruption. These politicians have now joined the BJP and are occupying the posts of ministers and MLAs. The BJP is maintaining a blissful silence on these politicians, he said.

The State Parliamentary Affairs Minister had no mention of these politicians while making public a list of the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats on the floor of the State Assembly yesterday. The Vision Document of the BJP had alleged that Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was involved in the Louis Berger scam. But, since Sarma joined the BJP later on, the BJP did not initiate any legal action against him, he alleged.
