Govt to recommend CBI probe

GUWAHATI, Sept 27 � In the event of a number of incidents of rhino poaching, the State Government has finally decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into the recent spurt in the killing of one-horned rhino in Assam.

Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain announced this during a press conference here today. Hussain also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone who would give vital information about rhino poachers.

Hussain said that the Government will recommend the CBI to cover the incidents of last three years and investigate all possible angles relating to rhino poaching during the period.

As many as 16 rhinos have been killed this year by poachers, including two today.

Asked, the Minister did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of militants and reiterated that the CBI would look into all angles.

He further informed that the Forest department has decided to deploy Army and police personnel outside the boundaries of the Kaziranga National Park, especially in Karbi Anglong area.
