Govt to build 5 hospitals in 2 months: Himanta

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 27 - To enhance its capacity for treating coronavirus patients in isolation, the State health department is planning to build five hospitals within two months.

We want to build four to five prefabricated hospitals. One will be in Guwahati and another in Dibrugarh. The other three locations are being explored. The tender for the work is being floated, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today.

Each will be a 300-bedded facility with ICU and other required infrastructure.

The cost of building one such hospital will be around Rs 40-45 crore. During the last few days the State MPs have donated funds for the crisis. We hope we can make one with that money. Also, the government employees have wished to donate a days salary. This will come to around Rs 80 crore. We have also given a bank account for donations. We feel four of the hospitals can be built with public donations, and the government will have to bear the expenditure for only one, the he said.
