GUWAHATI, Jan 16 - The State government is out to bring an end to the practice of engagement of college teachers and principals in the governing bodies etc., of the private educational and non-educational institutions.
The practice of engagement of college teachers and principals in such institutions either on voluntary or on paid basis as members or secretaries or in any other similar capacity in the governing bodies or councils has created a situation of conflict of interest. Their part-time engagement with other agencies has also affected the educational environment of the colleges where they are not able to devote themselves fully and dedicatedly to the primary task of teaching.
According to an official press release here on Monday, in order to obviate the problem with a view to create congenial educational environment in the government and provincialised colleges and other government educational institutions of higher learning, an office memorandum to this effect has been issued by the Higher Education Department, Government of Assam, that no college teacher or principal shall engage themselves as member of any private institutions either voluntary or on paid basis.
Henceforth, any teacher or principal is currently on the panel of such private educational institutions or non-educational institutions shall immediately resign from such posts or engagements within 30 days of issue of the memorandum on January 7, 2017, failing which disciplinary action shall be taken as per relevant rules.
