Govt seeks Tata group cooperation

GUWAHATI, Aug 20 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today laid stress on improvement of the agriculture sector of the State and sought cooperation from the Tata group in improving its infrastructure.

Official sources here said that the Chief Minister in his meeting with the Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata here this morning, suggested that in the areas like food processing, providing mobile refrigeration vans to the farmers etc, the Tatas can render invaluable help.

Stating that he now attaches topmost priority to improvement of agriculture sector, the Chief Minister said that through the improvement of this sector, the economic condition of the State�s people could be improved. The State Government is very keen in ensuring the improvement in the economic condition of the people, he told the head of the Tata group.

Ratan Tata appreciated the stand of the Chief Minister on the issue, said the sources.

It needs mention here that the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government has been trying to rope in outside investors since its coming to power for the first time in 2001. The Chief Minister in his first meeting with the Tata group chairman a few years back had asked for investment in the industry sector.

In his second meeting with the Tata group head, the Chief Minister asked for investment of the Tata group in the education sector and this time, in his third meeting with the Tata group chairman, the Chief Minister has asked for investment in the agriculture sector with a view to developing the infrastructure of the sector, said the sources.
